The Wake island Spirit was
originally a Newsletter started and published by Eugene and Cynthia Delenia
along with thier Daughter Mikayla as a family project back in the ’70s.
With the Advent of the Internet, it has morphed over to Facebook and
E-mail. Eugene and Mikayla are still actively involved as well as some
others. Eugene was raised on Wake Island in the 60’s and 70’s
Main Administrators of this area listed in no specific importance.
Ron Skates, lived there from 1961 to 1971 and who’s Father was the Asst.Station Manager for FMC, Con-AM from approximately 1961 to 1972. His Mother Betty Skates, was the Post Mistress, Woman’s Club President, FAA Club Manger, Red Cross Representative, and Bank of Hawaii Manager at different times.
Rick Olson, who’s father was the FAA Protestant Chaplin from 1965 to 1968.
Thora Thiesen (Beatty), who’s father was a manger for Standard oil, and was on Wake Island for the longest. Her sister Heather was actually born on Wake Island.
Barbara Binger Arce’s family was with FAA
Suzette Dacuag, who was instrumental in helping organize the last Wake Island Reunion was also raised there.
Josh Donahue has joined us as a major contributor in documenting the History of Wake Island during WWII.
